Wow with Whites

Cozy Layers, Soft Textures and Warm Woods

Winter scene with white and natural furnishings.

As in fashion, white is crisp and cool in the summer and cozy, sophisticated and classic in the winter. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication and is always in season. Mixing together different shades of white from gray whites to ivories and creams with natural materials such as warm woods and rattan, creates rich and welcoming rooms. Welcoming Whites bring an airiness into any room. Beautiful monochromatic rooms are achieved with layers of thick and interesting textures in fabrics and rugs. Natural fabrics such as wool, linen, cotton, and the luxurious feel of baby alpaca and cashmere all work well in a White Color Palette. The thick white Nordic Cable Throw and the textures in the creamy rug along with the soft linen sofas are all enhanced by the warmth of wood, as in the Teak Root Coffee Table above. Don't forget to light a candle or a fire to give your room that warm glow. Just like on sandy beach with crashing waves and white seafoam and driftwood , the mix of the whites, grays and creams create a strikingly beautiful scene, so too does the mix of whites and natural textures in a room.

~ Whites, Natural Textures & Wood ~

"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better."- Albert Einstein

We can take our cues from nature and create rooms that make us feel good and never get old.  Whites with natural tones and textures have an ethereal quality. It's soothing and comforting. The warmer tones of natural materials give the room depth.

The hand painted Coral Leaf Style Mirror is a wonderful example of a Beautiful White element that is textural and organic in feel. Stunning over a fireplace, in an entry or a powder room. The seagrass baskets are textured and perfect on bookshelves or on a coffee table. The hand-made Tibetan Fur pillow has been a long time favorite of ours. It adds instant coziness and warmth on a bed or on a sofa. The wood lattice console has so much textural interest. The warmth and texture of the wood juxtaposed against white immediately provides depth in a living room or entry.

What are the best white paint colors to use on walls?
If you want the truest white, Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace is a great choice. We use this on trim and shiplap walls. If you want a little warmer white, Benjamin Moore's Simply White is a a warmer white. Simply white is softer and we often use this on walls because it's not a sterile, but is still white. It works well on walls, trim and shiplap. Benjamin Moore's Cloud White is an even softer white with some yellow undertones. It is a subtle white and it is a warm, more natural white.
