Foundations of a Dining Room

DINING: Add warmth and classic style to your home this holiday season with a coastal dining table with a pedestal base, round kitchen table or a unique driftwood table with a glass top or any of our other coastal dining room sets. This particular Dining Collection offers vintage coastal lighting, rustic mirror flanked by glass display cabinets for dishes or pottery. A sideboard for linens, utensils and a variety of storage. A reclaimed pine table and linen accent chairs in light or dark leg finishes with nailhead trim.

Everyday & Seasonal Tips FOR THE TABLE Decor: Keep the dining area clean and simple but offer touches of everyday decor that can be replaced or modified by seasonal decor for that special time of year. One of my favorite centerpieces for daily use on a rectangular dining table is the Driftwood Candelabra. For the holidays, add some greenery to make it festive. Another great centerpiece is nautical jars with candles & greenery

LIGHTING: The rule of thumb for dining room lighting such as a chandelier placement is you hang it approximately 30 to 34 inches over a table with an 8 foot ceiling height. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet, mount the chandelier an additional 3 inches higher for each foot of ceiling. Lighting can be ornate, simple or dramatic. For a round table, keep the light fixture round or octagon. For a rectangular table, a light fixture like the Natural Oyster Shell Chandelier draws the eye to it, dramatically with a veil of strands of oyster shells on display in their natural form, hung from a wrought iron frame.
