Color and Texture for a Seaside Style

Before you even begin furnishing a room, your décor is founded on a backdrop of color and texture. If you’re at our blog, you’re probably interested in a seaside style, and this should help you know where to begin.

Blue and white are your obvious choices when it comes to color in a seaside style, but they aren’t your only choices. And even if you do choose to use blue and white, there’s still a lot of variety that can be created, depending on the shades that you select. When considering your neutral colors, your choices range from crisp whites to warm, pale grays to sandy tans. Your accent colors include both pale, watery blues and deep, bold blues, as well as light greens reminiscent of sea foams and beach grasses. Where you need darker colors, consider dark, cool grays that remind you of ocean storms building on the horizon.

A seaside style utilizes an interesting mixture of rough and smooth textures inspired by both natural and manmade aspects of life by the ocean. Think clear, calm water, well-worn sea glass, and the freshly lacquered hull of a ship on the one hand, and fine sand, natural fibers, and irregular driftwood on the other. To incorporate texture and depth into your rooms, consider the polished look of mirrors, the regularity of board and batten wainscoting, furniture that utilizes rattan, jute, or sisal, and accents which seem weathered.

Here at Our Boat House, we have everything you could want to get started with a seaside style all your own. Browse our catalog and get inspired today.
