The porthole was originally used on the hull of ships to admit light and fresh air to enter the dark and damp below-deck quarters. It allows for the crew to have a glimpse into the outside world which was a much needed aspect of ship life.

Our Boat House loves everything nautical and/or ship salvaged. We truly can feel the history and stories behind our authentic Porthole Mirrors. They remind us of life on the sea, they reflect a simpler time and have a nautical vibe that's subtle and classic, perfect for a coastal home.

Here we used our porthole mirrors to frame a piece of art for symmetry and added nautical accents. They flow great with this setting and something would most definitely be missing if they weren't a part of this room. The aluminum finish stands out amongst the white and blues for a classic coastal living room.

Pictured above, two aluminum porthole mirrors are placed in a guest bedroom upon a dark navy wall creating contrast and depth. Tied together with a rope table lamp and striped throw pillows they've created the ultimate coastal guest bedroom.

We love seeing portholes used in different ways, as wall decor, as a window, or even as a decorative doorway pictured above. This doorway makes you feel like you're on a ship. The brass placed against the dark wood is a great contrast.

Mirrors have become one the most popular accent pieces, especially circular ones. Mix and match them with different sizes and finsihes, as a part of a gallery wall, for your kids bedroom or as a statement piece in the powder room. Shown above we've used the porthole mirror as a unique centerpiece for a dinner party on the beach. Filled with candles and seashells, the mirror captured everyone's attention and added interest to the table. They are so incredibly versatile and will never go out of style.

Summer has come to an end and we are reminiscing on our time spent in the Hamptons over the past few months. We decided to dedicate a post to a favorite little house on the bay in Westhampton Beach, NY!

The first bedroom and our favorite is right off the kitchen. Two walls are full of windows making it almost feel like a sunroom with all of the natural light that shines in. The views of the bay are endless and it has it’s own private bathroom. We loved the blue and white striped duvet, the simplistic nature of no clutter and the white wispy curtains. The other bedrooms are similar in style, seemingly decorating with the view in mind. Downstairs is more playful, with a kids bedroom and brighter colors.

The great room upstairs has a wall full of knick knacks that clearly has taken years to collect and a great deal of meaning to the owners, it’s fun, eclectic and bound to be a conversation starter that will go hand in hand with the makeshift bar they’ve created right below. There's no TV upstairs, which we love, it forces you to enjoy the company, play a board game or cook a great meal. It's like going back in time and with a big deck overlooking the beautiful bay who needs a tv anyway?

Of course you need a bar! We love how they've used an old desk/cabinet and turned it into a great makeshift bar. It adds rustic character to the living room and is a fun gathering spot for guests.

The downstairs has three bedrooms, a bathroom, it's own living area and even a sauna to release stress and truly feel like your on vacation. With slipcovered furniture and white wood coffee table & accent tables, the whole space feels light and airy perfect for just coming in from the beach.

Nautical elements are a key theme throughout the entire house. For the shower curtain a sail cloth is used and for hooks old boat cleats hang bath towels. Again, we love how much white is in this beach home. There's nothing better in our opinion than crisp white interiors with a touch of accent colors inspired by the salt, sand & sea.

Of the many bedrooms in the house almost all of them have a stunning view of the bay. There is nothing like waking up to the sounds of the current coming in and sailboats cruising just outside your window.

These handwoven pillows are lush, plush & wildly indulgent. Truly some of the softest pillows and throws out there. This is the ultimate in comfort and luxury! Throw the Rye Beach Horizon Pillow on your sofa and everyone will want to come in and curl up.

The different patterns of these pillows play so well off one another and add some texture to this slipcovered sofa. The Rye Beach Throw Pillow & Horizon Pillow make the perfect duo.

Here' s a close up of the fabric so you can get a good look at the oh so cozy texture. You can’t go wrong with this palette of soft and understated neutrals, perfect for any season. Made from handwoven merino wool and filled with a down insert. This will be your new favorite! The matching throw has wonderful long twisted tassles for an extra plush look. Drap it over your sofa arm and you'll never want a different throw again.
